[MAZOT (François)]. Le Tableau de la Croix représenté dans les cérémonies de la Ste Messe ensemble le trésor de la dévotion aux souffrances de Nre S.I.C. Paris, Mazot, 1651 (achévé d'imprimer le 20 septembre 1652). One small volume in-8, contemporary red morocco, framed with gilt lace, important decoration with small irons in the central rectangle, ornate spine, gilt edges, traces of clasp. (48) ff. Wear and tear, two corners damaged, first plate edges missing, pages loose and unbound.
This fully engraved work was a great success in its day. Our copy consists of a title page, a dedication to the Marquis de Chasteauneuf with a facing portrait of the dedicatee by Geÿn, a notice to the reader, 35 scenes depicting the progression of the Mass with corresponding prayers, 4 plates containing the litany of the saints, full-page portraits of Jesus and the Virgin with facing litany, a title and 8 plates for the Histoire de David, 2 plates of orations and a page containing the extract from the Privilège du Roi.
The engraving is attributed to Johannes Collin, an Antwerp engraver who worked in Holland, Rome and Paris, as well as in England.
