(t) CHINA--MILITARY. Three Eastern Provinces Military. 1 Yuan, ND (1924). P-Unlisted. Specimen. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
Extremely rare 1 Yuan specimen. Obverse brown with 'SPECIMEN' in English and Chinese. Reverse green.

Zhang Zuo Lin, Commander of the Three Eastern Provinces, used the first Jiangsu-Zhejiang War as an excuse to launch the Second Zhili-Fengtien War in September 1924. Cao Kun, head of the Zhili Clique, ordered Wu Pei Fu to mobilise some 200,000 men to meet this threat.

Zhang ordered the printing of 'The Three Eastern Provinces Military' notes, in denominations of 1, 5 and 10 Yuan to be printed by the Bureau of Finance. Issued notes are phenomenally rare, with only 2 to 3 of each denomination known, and specimens are also extremely rare. Here is a golden opportunity to acquire a complete set of notes from this pivotal war. PMG Comments "Previously Mounted."

From the Renaissance Collection of Chinese Military Banknotes.
