Heavily scuffed, rim nicks and reverse edge knock at 3 o'clock, otherwise very fine, pierced for suspension and with contemporary gold loop, extremely rare; in original black shagreen case £6,000-£8,000

Prince George August (1683-1760), later King George II and Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, the last British monarch born outside England, gained the title of Electoral Prince on his 18th birthday, 9 November 1701. The British Act of Settlement, passed five months earlier, positioned his grandmother, the Electress Sophia of Hanover (1630-1714), and her Protestant descendants to inherit the British throne
